owen1975Richard, the car was advertised on here as well as 3 other Australian forums, and it was well over a month before Irene made a decision to sell the car. News of the cars availability reached as far as UK forums and not just confined to mini enthusiasts. Is that not open market enough??
If anyone was a true mini enthusiast they surely would have heard about the car.
Irene gave everyone an equal opportunity to express their interest in the car. If They really wanted the car and didnt take that opportunity bigger the fool them. Plenty of people say they would love to own it but how many are prepared to cough up the money and take on such a big undertaking of a restoration physically and financially....not many. Either way it is said and done. Time to move on and enjoy the next chapter for Paddy. G.
Quote from XXXX.com.au from Maybellene:
I did have my own ideas on what "the lot" was worth but my main problem was the length of time it has all been stored and the general deterioration because of that. That was also why I wanted to get it all sorted and (photo) catalogued and also establish a better time line for Paddy before putting it all out on the open market.
Then from Maybellene:
so far only one person has actually emailed me in depth giving me their name and details, why they should buy the car and their history with minis and mini restoration.
The response from forum members:
oh, blah blah blah. the fact that this group of people actually think they can earn a right to something by having some pedigree proves to me that they're all wankers. take it to auction. you don't owe them anything.
if you're really keen, send it to the UK and take it to auction. (ca-ching $$$$)
The response from Maybellene:
You are right - I don't owe any of them anything at all
The point I was making Greg, was that they were not actually advertised, rather interest was sought in their history with an intent to sell "when the time was right" (given the vendors loss and the fact that restraint was needed by all). But some people chose to put their own interests first and as a result the cars were never placed on the open market. As I said right at the start, the outcome is good (I am glad they are staying in Aust - However, I think you are overestimating their global appeal). It is just a shame that everyone with great credentials whom also demonstrated respect for the vendor did not get an opportunity. Now that is the vendors choice, but it doesn't remove the fact that it was a shame the market was not tested for the purpose of striking a value for racing mini's in Australia.
Happy to move on, best of luck with the restoration(s).
