Require some expert help please.
Just about to reinstall my motor/gearbox in a 66 Deluxe. Motor is a 1098, 3.44 diff, 165/70 x 10 tyres, standard black 90 mph speedo.
I'm sure the speedo will be out, maybe actually read under. Can the speedo gear/pinion whatsi thing be changed at the gearbox or do I really need to change the speedo out for cooper s. Not really keen on putting dymo tape stickers on the speedo.

Thanks.

it's for UK minis, but you'll find the right combination in here - http://www.guess-works.com/Tech/ratio.htm

Just checked Simon, up to 6000 rpm, pretty well spot on. Happy with that.

Bugger. I just checked this again, was reading the chart wrong. My speedo is the standard black 90mph 1408 turns per minute type as indicated on the speedo face. Speedo pinion and drive gears in the gearbox are 6 and 17 tooth types. The chart shows at 60mph indication on the speedo, actual speed is 66 mph. Without going to a Cooper S 120mph 1280tpm type speedo (unless I got it cheap), can the gears in the gearbox be changed to bring the tpm back to near 1280 tpm. Or, does anyone do reduction gears that screw on to the back of the speedo.

Any info much appreciated.

The guessworks calculator should suggest the best speedo drive gears given your diff ratio and speedo TPM. We have a similar issue (3.44 diff and Mini K 90mph speedo) and ordered the drive gears from guessworks.

It's easy to read the chart wrong.

That's a bugger, same speedo as mine. I guess we'll be in the next bidding war for a 1280 cooper s speedo ! Happy bidding.

You may want to check the possibility and cost to recalibrate your existing speedo.

7/18 are the gears for a 1408TPM speedo and 3.44 diff if you can find them.
