Can anyone explain why there's two different body types and advance mechanism types?

At first I thought someone had shoved a non Lucas shaft in as it doesn't turn and the housing is cracked but the more I look, I think it's just a different version.

The one on the left is the odd one to me. The body is smooth and rounded. The spring posts are pressed steel so can be bent and the cam has the plastic retainer. It is dated 74 whereas the "normal" ones to me are 67/68.

The one with no vac was used on mk2 S. I just put a Powerspark 25D electronic kit in one.

They both have vacuum advance bodies.

I like the fact that the posts can be bent to adjust the curve.

If you post a pic of the part number and date stamped on the bodies or just type the numbers/letters I can let you know what vehicle they were first used on.
