Looks like a pic of an Aussie Cooper S.
Would the rear loom normally be wrapped in PVC tape like that?

Yes the S had PVC style wrap. Earlier cars like the 850 had the cloth wrap.

This factory document from Winabbey shows the distance between wraps where the wires exit the loom.

Is this only mk1 S's ? My 3/73 Mk2 S only has single/double loop of pvc wrap at various distances along the loom and wrapping at the branches ie not continuously wrapped along the length. Or am I interpreting it incorrectly - pic

Yes the MK2 was only wrapped at intervals and the wires were exposed more than they were covered. Might have saved themselves 10c each car.
