I found this very interesting part in my PUB 1056M on page RG-2.
HYA7161 Weather Seal - Windscreen Toughened - HYA7162 (which everyone is selling) and Windscreen Laminated - HYA7162 (which no one sells).
Any comments from the well versed Mini enthusiasts out there!!
My PUB1056M is stored away so I can't check and don't quite follow what you are saying.
According to the parts book I reckon HYA7161 was meant to accommodate the thinner zone toughened windscreen and HYA7162 the thicker laminated windscreen. Eventually the laminated one becomes standard fitment so no longer a need for the thinner HYA7161, although some current suppliers still use that part number (see below).
When supplies of genuine BMC/Leyland seals dried up aftermarket seals would be given one of the original part numbers, even though they may not be the same dimensions or made from the same material as the originals.

It would be interesting to know the actual manufacturer of the seals from other suppliers in order to know if they are the same dimensions and material.
Once the source of a "good" seal is known it would be worthwhile posting here to assist others.
Thank you for your sugguestion Doug. It would appear that the original Cooper S laminated screen (TRIPLEX) is thicker than current replacements.
As far as expendng many dollars on many windscreen seal on the off chance that one will fit seems a bit onerous.
Obviously not many Cooper S owners are running the original screens.
