So it does appear there are different ratings i finally found something on schrader pacific site. The air specific ones seem to be up to the 300psi range, and they do have a high pressure one @4000psi. I bought generic from supercheap, so assume not high pressure

The long pin one they list only seems to be 200psi, so not suitable anyway.

https://schrader-pacific.com/content/up ... ochure.pdf

I did read some paintball guys happy to run at 800psi on standard ones and a few people have said no issues so far with standard tyre cores, so i will stick with what i have and monitor.

as you don't seem to believe several people here who have been there done that...why don't you de-pressurize one side of the system (say) and closely examine the valve you remove

[wear eye protection and keep out of the way of the valve once you start letting pressure out. Some use a clear plastic tube big enough to slide over the valve body draining into a suitable container]

I'm assured by a very knowledgeable Mini mechanic that a standard Schrader valve core is suitable.

Out of interest this is what the valve core used by BMC looks like. The BMC part number is 13H965 for the valve core, 13H1705 for the valve assembly.

Yep, thats what i pulled out Winabbey

Just for clarity i did say i have now fitted standard tyre valve cores and i had followed other peoples suggestions.

The link to the schrader pdf was me going down a rabbit hole after DavidE asked about using a core rated for the system - i was just interested in what pressure they maxed out at and did find there are different rated valve cores. I would say that technically the tyre valves are only rated for 200-300psi, but have a higher failure tolerance and work fine for the hydro system. Its probably not the valve that would fail in anycase, it would be the 50+yo hoses.

Well, it is interesting that there are pressure ratings for those valves. I didn't know that before, so that's what I've learnt today. Hence I mustn't be dead yet.
Rabbit holes are always interesting places and worth a look. Well done.

@Andosoft,
50 year old hoses can be replaced, I did another one today. Failure point is usually where it's crimped onto the bag's barb. Rust sets in under the crimp.
I use Pirtek MPH 06 hose, and 2x Oetiker full circle clamps each end onto the barbs.
Test fine at 270 psi.

I've just replaced one line on my son's 71 Clubby, I used 3/8 nylon semi rigid hydraulic tubing WP 625psi.
Used for hydraulic steering on boats.
Made in Australia too.
Compression fittings on both ends.
4M with fittings cost me $57 from boating warehouse.
I made a pair of brass adaptors to fit the 5/8 UNF hydro fitting threads.

These are Oetiker full circle clamps, not twin eared pneumatic ones.
Tested fine at 270 psi. Crimped onto the original barb.
I made an offset crimping tool.
