Hi all,
I thought whilst I was fixing a hydro pipe leak and the radiator was out that I would get (what I thought was) the original radiator cleaned out and freshened up and fit it back in place of the alloy one I fitted all those years ago. It appears that the top hose outlet is not in the right spot any more (pic shows top hose fitted in the right orientation) so with everyones help I would like to identify a correct MKII S radiator and if (as it appears) the one I have is not correct, then what do I have? The issue I had whilst restoring my car years ago was some of the parts from a 63 997 Cooper that was also in pieces in my Dads shed made their way onto my shelves and I am wondering if the radiator is yet another part from the Cooper that I have ended up with.
As usual, any help appreciated and thanks in advance!
regards Gavin

I think that's a very early radiator - the plate on the top was only there for early cars, I think the radiators came from England with that and Australian produced radiators had a different shape top tank

so yeah, it probably came from the Cooper

Yes, looks like the wrong radiator. What part number is embossed on the brass plate?

Here's the set-up in my MK II S.

These are the engineering drawings for two types of Mini radiator showing the different inlet positioning.

Thank you very much for your help Simon and Doug, looks like I'll be posting a "wanted" and selling a freshly cleaned out and painted early rad.
I couldn't see any tags on the radiator, there are numbers stamped into the side frame / housing, looked like 2 69 which is why I kept it thinking it was from the MKII and hung onto it all these years!
regards Gavin

The part number and date would have been on the brass plate soldered to the top near the outlet. It looks like yours wasn't put back after reconditioning, or wasn't there in the first place. Suggest you check with the reconditioner in case they still have it.

Radiator Mk2 S.jpg

My Mk2 has this radiator in it - I think it is original to the car and can't remember changing it. The Newcell plate says AYA2077.
The mini K has the same shaped header tank and outlet arrangement but is AYG2244 - same as one of Winabbey's engineering drawings.

If SMK269 is looking for something original-looking, there should be plenty of radiators with the top tank that has the right spout arrangement.

AYA2077 is correct for the Cooper S. I have the same as yours in mine.

Thanks again gents for your assistance, i have updated my wanted ad with the part number and a close up of BillB's pic with the Newcell plate, would be awesome if someone has one of those that they want to part with.
regards Gavin

In my post I meant to say that all the late De Luxe, K and S radiators look to have the same header tank. The different part numbers I assume are due to variations in the number of tubes and gills for different models.
Point is that you may not find a radiator with the Newcell plate still attached but any of the radiators with the same header tank will look 'correct'.

You may wish to consider as an alternative, that Natrad sell a new radiator that looks like the original Australian mini ones.

Regarding the plate unfortunately when they heat the top tank to unsolder it the plate usually would simply fall off as they are just sweated on with solder and most radiator places over the years would just bin them.

If anyone ever gets one done you need to ask them not to chuck it away. Or remove it first.

There's a Newcell among a collection of three radiators in Essendon on this FB group. If you aren't a member of the group I can PM you contact details.

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the reply, I have requested to join the FB group on Monday this week however the Admin must be busy as I haven't heard from them yet regarding approval. If you could let them know or pass on my details I would greatly appreciate it.
regards Gavin

Hi,
I have a Newcell radiator with the tag MOR222H63 that is soldered to the core rather than the header tank. It looks like an 850 radiator with the square header tank. Can anyone shed any light on what this was from?

Cheers,
James.

MOR222 is not a standard BMC Australia part number, although MOR may relate to a Morris vehicle. H63 could be the date - August 1963.
