Minis aren't too bad. Try sitting in a modern car on any day, turn off the AC and see how long you last. I can only go minutes!

I think this comes down to the small surface area of the roof and the windscreens on a mini compared to a modern car (I'd say 50% less area).
I find you can park in the sun on a hot day and when it's time to leave open the door up wind the window down before you get in (this gives a few seconds for the hot are in the car to escape) then once your in drop the passenger window, pop the rear windows and off you go, within 30 seconds the cab is down to normal temperature for that day.

It would seem that having the rear windows swung open works for most people, makes sense to drag air right through the car to keep hot air to a minimum.

I have purchsed a dual head fan cheap off ebay and fitted it as a short term solution, fits neatly on the centre console I fabricated some years ago. Took all afternoon to fit but now I can install it in a couple of minutes and even less to take out again as it is only a summer thing. I am impressed with the amount of air it blows for the cost.
Long term I intend to fit two air vents similar to the late model rover air con vents on the dashboard and adapt the standard heater fan unit to provide face level heat and cool air as required.

Your quarter vent windows (if you have then) should be able to to be swiveled right open and forward to direct air to your face (as long as someone hasn’t installed a mirror in the way) If they don’t stay open then you should be able to tighten them from inside the door although they have a hard time staying open once to get up to 80-90kph.
