Following on from the 'Staying cool in summer' thread a few have mentioned the Quarter vent works well.
Unfortunately the drivers side has problems.
The vent flaps around when open as it falls off the bottom pivot. I assume from parts diagrams that there is supposed to be a stud attached to the glass frame that is nyloc nutted to a bracket on the door window frame.
Mine has a hole in the bottom of the glass frame and a very short stud in the door frame, I assume the stud has sheared off??
I suppose I have to take the door and widow frame to pieces to fix it, that is assuming the parts are even available.
It relocates back on to the stud OK, which allows it to close and seal fine, just cannot open it which is why I haven't bothered about it.
Any Hints or advice appreciated.

I have some spare quarter windows if you need some parts (located in Wollongong). The rubbers/felts are gone but the rest are ok. Happy for you to just take them.

That's correct. The stud is part of the glass frame.

To stop the quarter vent flapping around tension is applied through nylon washers and metal spacers where the stud locates, plus firm operation of the top hinge (a gentle hammer of the hinge pin will tighten it, or get a new hinge).

my stud broke off a few months ago too - it should be OK to have it TIG welded back on if you get desperate

A common problem I've seen with these windows is the frame stretches away from the glass. So after you have finally managed to replace the #@$&!*! rubber, the frame drags the rubber out of the door at the bottom if opened much.
So mine stay closed now.

But the passenger always opens the window before you can say "DON'T" OPEN THE ....

Just like they always slam their door when it can be closed easily....

If I ever have cause to pull the door to bits in the future I may tackle it then.
