Sorry to hijack the thread but my question is about the connectors used at each end of the hose. Did aus built cars have a one way valve in line and if so was it on the inlet manifold or on the booster ?
I have searched cars other than Coopers that had a booster fitted to try and locate a replacement. I know English mk1 had one fitted but the only replacement is an inline valve from Mini Spares but it has 3/8" spurs not 1/2'. I cant find anything definitive re aus built mk1
1. Lockheed boosters had a non-return valve fitted to the booster - as Winabbey has said. This allowed air to flow FROM the booster TO the manifold to create a vacuum in the canister.
There is/was a valve available new (17H2646ORIGINAL from Mini Spares UK) that looks similar to the originals, but they fit on the manifold and work in reverse to the booster valves. If you were to fit this valve to the booster where they were fitted to Oz Ss, it would not work. I am told that some booster set-ups on UK cars used this reverse arrangement.
2. I have several of the old valves but they are all faulty. I intend to fit one to the booster for appearances but fit an in-line valve inside the hose where it cannot be seen as most modern cars do. These in-line valves are from Mitsubishi and cost $5.
