Check carefully before you order Heritage sills as they are likely to be for a UK body shell and will have more vents pressed into the panel than the Australian style. Look closely at your current sill and compare the indents and pressings to what you plan to purchase. My understanding from more knowledgeable people than me who regularly work on Oz Mini bodies is that the flat panel is the best choice for maintaining a sympathetic look and is not overly difficult to fit. I believe Minisport and Mini Kingdom Online source their sills from different manufacturers so take that into account as well.

The original Australian pressed sills had Australian part numbers to reflect the difference - HYA1774 and 1775. Unless you find New Old Stock of these you may find your best option is the flat panel.

The sill panels are easy to curve and fit if you know what you are doing ,As I said previously use vise grips on the body edge and self tappers on the under body to hold the wide flange in place. You can also ask a Resto shop to curve them using a stretcher shrinking machine, takes 5 min each sill, you will need a template of the original curve use some cardboard for the template I just use a straight edge and measure the gap at each end. Note support the body evenly when doing sill or floor work I use timber and 4 jack stands. Also use zinc weld spray between body flanges when welding helps prevent corrosion. I used to teach car body restoration at TAFE for a long time Make sure the new sill panel is the same as the original sill panel, P7676

I have a sill job to do on my Mk2, something I have not been looking forward to.

Would another alternative be altering rover sills to match mk1 sills. I bought a new rover boot floor to replace through to back seat and modified it to match mk1 by removing the indent in the back seat pan and welding up the incorrect holes and drilling the correct ones. Would it be easier to modify rover sills by replacing the extra vents with flat metal. I would buy an extra sill to cut the metal from so there is no difference in thickness or quality. That way you have the style of the mk1 as well as the built-in curve. I realise that you would have to be confident in your welding skills so that the sill maintains its strength throughout.

heritage parts are the best to buy, although I can curve the sill with no problems ,also no body filler is required, that is because I have replaced numerous sills on Minis .They are a not easy to fit and they must be correctly welded as this panel is a structural part of the car. If you are not a good MIG welder let someone else weld them on I have just replaced 2 sills and most of the floor sections on my 1970 CS.GOOD LUCK P7676
