Early morning start Sunday to get to Melbourne. A good 3-4 hours from Lakes.

Got to Melbourne OK that afternoon, the tire change was at Moe, and the last pic is where I'm staying in Melbourne (Coburg)

Will still be an early start to hopefully give the car a wash. Covered in bugs and dust!

At the BMC Experience Grand Day Out. Come and say hi if you are at the show. I have plenty of 2017 Minis in the Gong Calendars plus John Sneddon has his excellent new Australian Mini & Moke book on sale.

Have just ordered a couple of calendars.

Waiting with bated breath for news on the method to be used to buy a copy (or two) of John Sneddon's book.

Cheers

Yes I was. Was planning to stay a night in Beechworth and then Alpine way thru thredbo etc. But started to have a problem with the clutch. I have a feeling the ball has fractured on the clutch arm. I can still change gears, but only just. Decide to just head straight home on the Hume. Shame was looking forward to going over the Alps. Having break at Gundagai now.

Just as well you stayed clear of Bonnie Doon. They have some good parties up there. Lol.

I went through Bonnie too.

Ah the serenity. Took some pics. You can rent out Daryl Kerrigans Holiday house! Complete with punching bag in tree and jousting sticks in the window.

You should have called in..... Peter would possibly have had the parts to fix your Mini. ..You could always come back and then you could do the Alpine roads :) :)

We came home from the "two headed Tassie tour" though Cann river back in 2010. Was a great drive in the Mini

Thanks, I've done the Alpine way before in the Mini so I was looking forward to doing it again. So with the clutch playing up I just hit the Hume and headed home, got home around 11.30 and pulled out the arm, yep, fractured.

Is the hardened silver steel bush I put in the plunger still OK?

Yeah. Heres my theory on what happened.

I had used the best arm I could find but it was still worn at the ball.

I was also trying the setup without the return spring so the arm is self adjusting. Also have a slightly longer pushpin fitted and circlip removed.

I think maybe with wear the lever began to stroke so far that the ball was jamming in the socket it goes into. Then because the return spring was off each time it bent it could bend it further next time it was operated. Nearly tore it completely off. See pic.

It's also possible that the big nuts that a lot of people say to leave off prevented the self adjusting arm from destroying my crank bearings!! The arm snapped instead.

Interested in others opinions.

I'm going back to fitting the return spring.

That's quite some wear...but most surprising is the fracture :(
