Thanks to some fellow forumers i have come into posession of a motor believed to be a 1275. Eng no. N793729P. Any ideas what it is from. Is it a 1275??

It is a police number stamped on a mini block more information about the block required

That's a NSW police issued number, so it won't tell you what it is. Does the back of the block have cover plates or not?

Probably casting number 12G 1279

So what is an ex-1100s motor. Would it have come out of a morris 1100s or whats the history for these motors. Will take photos tomorrow

Lots of minis that have had a 1275 transplant are using the 1100S engine (12YD engine number).
These have a 12G1279 casing number at the rear. This casing was also used in the UK 1275GT.
You used to be able to pickup an 1100S car for next to nothing.

So whhy is it stamped with an N number or did the police use 1100s motors?

Whenever you bought a NEW (non S) block from BMC (I bought 2) they came with NO engine number.
You took it and the receipt to your local fuzz, they allocated a number and directed you to a business of their choosing to get it stamped.

They `may' also have allocated a Police number if the original was machined off and could not be discovered (a maybe).

Code N (for NSW) 79 (year) 3729 (sequential number that year) P (Police).
