Hi,
Can gears from a Sprite go into a 3syncro Mini gearbox (apart from 1st motion) and vise versa?
Secondly, is it only 1st, reverse and laygear that are different with A and B type gears?

Mk 1 & Mk 2 smooth-case Sprite gearbox gears definitely won't work in a Mini gearbox. The synchros are a completely different design. Don't know about the MG Midget ribbed-case box.

Smooth case sprite gears use the same old original cone synchro that the Morris 850 had originally. It didn't work properly due to drop gears inertia, so Minis here got baulk ring synchro in 1962/3. As did the sprite with the ribbed case box.

I need to donate a set of gears to a mate. I think its a ribbed case and he has a 1st motion shaft, just nothing else. Does it need a laygear that would have the same teeth count as his 1st motion? (I think the sprite has 19 teeth and the mini has 18)

Mk3 spridget laygears are 22G1100s like mk1 S. They just spin the other way.
I'm pretty sure the third and second speed gears are the same too (check against know samples) but the 1st gear Hub and ring are slightly different enough to permit the 2nd speed syncro balls escaping when selecting 1st.

Thanks for that info. I will have to sit down and figure out what to do. Going to get expensive replacing all the gears (if available that is)!
