May I ask what kind of engine modifications are needed to make an engine take being supercharged ?

I am currently going to have my engine rebuilt, so if I find out now I can tell them to do them over the next week.

Thanx.

Max, WHo's doing the rebuild ? (please not chris, please not chris, please not chris...)

you'd want lowered compression (for 7 psi, you can JUST get away with standard LOW compression - 8.5:1) BUT you'll always run 98 octane....

On my little 998, I've done a fair bit, but nothing out of the ordinary from tha tough "street" rebuild.... then only change was the pistons, mine are "Van" castings (7.6:1) and I've chopped a bit out of the head.....

I run up to 15Psi at the moment, but the new turbo / manifold should allow up to 18Psi and a LOT more airflow, as well as running cooler.....

Nice kit there BTW, very neat.. i was expecting a LOT less stuff....

what a great idea, that is a awsome kit, hope all you guys looking to go from a 998-1098 to a 1275 have a good look at this.

A 1098 with this kit running 6psi would keep a very hot 1300cc+ honest and have alot more usuable power too. Very tempting to put on jodies 'barbi', now where to get a sc12 from :D

What is the maximun capacity motor for an SC12 at 7-8psi. Is the boost dependant on the engine capacity? Using this kit will a 998 have more effecrive boost than a 1310?

$850! wow that's darn good for the price! hmmm when I pull out the 1098 and plonk in the 1360 or whatever I might look into this

What prices can you expect for SC12 supercharger to go for? can they be bought second hand or new?

sc12 supercharges are around, all second hand. They are from the toyota 4agze motors and can be had for around $200 in good condition. These can be run on a standard engine with abit more fueling, aslong as boost is kept low (4-5psi).

I am fitting this kit to a 1310cc motor. The block has not been shaved.

The 12G940 head will not be shaved, just skimmed. It is getting a RALLY SPEC upgrade (or "stage 4" as it is known) but with very large chambers - ala "Vizard spec" for supercharging. Big $$$.

HEAD (Rally / Stage 4 specifications)
-12G940 Metro Turbo casting.
-Redrilled to suit 11 studs.
-Chambers de-shrouded, polished, machined to largest size possible to reduce compression..
-Hardened valve seats. (98 octane unleaded)
-Oversized inlet valves (35.5mm).
-Inlet ports flowed to maximum diameter.
-Exhaust ports flowed to maximum diameter, polished.
-Valve guide bosses removed.
-Pressed steel rockers, modified, seam welded, balanced.
-Offset rocker bushes.
-Double valve springs.
-Lightened and balanced pushrods

Pistons... unsure of their origin, but are dished and have an E stamped next to their size.

Cam - currently has a 649 full race cam fitted... Not gonna work though. Will require one with less overlap. Damn.

I just noticed that the engine stabiliser in this kit will not fit a 998 head - the thermostat mounting studs are in a different location. Will need to get back to you all on this...... I just hope it fits my 12G940 - without modifying it....

hey,

thats what i got...but i paid $800....??????

i fitted the new crank pulley over the weekend to the 1100 while the motor was out....

the pulley sits 4mm from the engine mount (radiator support),

so if u ever want to change a FAN BELT you will need to undo this mount to do it,

(there i was thinking it would be a good idea to fit the carnk pulley while the motor is out and save trouble puttint the pulley on later....I WILL STILL HAVE TO UNDO THE MOUNT JUST TO FIT THE BELT!!!)

$800.....IS PETTY CASH IN MINI PERFORMANCE MONEY PLUS $400 FOR THE SC12 AND HIF44

GOOD LUCK SC850,

AND IF U ARE LOOKING FOR A SC12...TRY TOYMODYS FORUM, THEIER EVERYWHERE ON THERE!

BLAKE
