Q1- these were made by KG Engineering in Melbourne, but they are no more AFAIK.
Matt TheMiniMan had one.
Q2 NFI but he looks familiar.

I have a 6 speed box in my Cooper S... Factory Fitment.

Or you could try like I have fitted to my Classic Cooper S a 3.2 Diff, drops about 800rpm

Cheers Brett

Were they the gearboxes that used motorbike innards and had a sequential shift?

NO, the KGs were a 5 or 5 speed dog box (similar looking to bike gears I guess) but the shift wasn't sequential.
Gears were made by KG Engineering.

I bought out KGs stock and am in the process of making a short run of ten 5 speeds. About half way through and should have some avaialable by the end of the year. KG had both 5 and 6 speeds, but only recommended the 5 speed as the gap between gears was no significant enough to make it worthwhile.

We have the 6 speed KG doggy here & it`s a dam good box, BUT there are some small issues with the hook change from 1st into 2nd being a little slow, our first 6 speed had a little problem with both 5th & 6th gears breaking into 2 pieces on it`s maiden voyage, but it looked like whoever was welding them maybe tack welded them & then went on smoko & forgot to fully weld them before heat treatment :-) Not sure really but they snapped all the same,,, i suggested that they get re-made in one piece instead of 2 bits welded together & Darryl aggreed & re-designed it for us, I`m only hoping he did the same with the 2nd box we have here. we havn`t driven it in anger yet so we just have to wait & see, fingers crossed :-) it`s 1600cc with Arden crossflow cyl head & twin 45 webers etc etc etc so it has some decent punch behind it :-)

I would also like a 5speed doggy tho, that`d go nicely with the turbo injected Bimmer twin cam 16v donk, i`ll keep in touch GAT51, cheers
