I hade a mate who mechaniced for one of the teams.

Yep controlled engines, FJ1200. But teams control the jetting. Also the different body shapes run different restrictors to even things out (less aerodynamic shapes have less restriction).

From memory ~100BHP, and top out at about 200kph. Clutch is on a small pedal and used for takeoff only. They stop on a dime. G-forces would be wicked.

Like Doc said, starter motor onto one of the rear disks for reverse.

They run a shortened Celica diff if I remember correctly. I think the drive shaft connects to the sprocket shaft via a Uni joint.

aha.

That was another option, was from the sprocket, directly to the Diff.
just have to worry about what ratio the diff is then....


still, quite doable.

balances the weight on either side too....

the other weekend i was at the historics at eastern creek and there was a bike engined hill climber there who was running a CBR 600 motors chain drive the centre diff out of a audi A4 quottro.

this did not have a reverse though, but the company called WWW.prbaustralia.com.au make a bike engined PRB Clubman now, that has a small gearbox straight onto the motor which changes drive forward to reverse left or right if you like. so yes you would have the same amount of forward gears as reverse gears.

i say go for it, it it were legal i would do it with a turbo busa motor
