Charcoal Canister? Just the cat was what i was going with. The mandrel bends should turn up this week and then I can weld up the exhaust. Trouble is I am going to have to do something about the rear cross member as I am going to have to do the same thing you did Brad and put some "gap" to get the exhaust through.

Matt,

Where does the exhaust foul?

What part of the rear crossmember, are we talking the webbing between the towers??

Andrew, I have a photo which will demonstrate and I will put up soon. But basically where you have the crossmember that the rear mount attaches to, well that is pretty close to dead centre where you want to run the exhaust through. Given that I am going with a 2.5" if I run it under there I might run below the 100mm clearance limit. I'll be checking it before I do anything but it might be a problem. If it is you have to make clearance (numerous solutions) to raise the exhaust path through that section.

Brad do you have that photo you once sent me of the cut out the guys made in your crossmember for the same reason.

Hi Matt,

As you recall I dont have that cross member with my insallation as the VLSD does not mount the same way as your and Brad's rear mount.

This is the rear mount which is offset to the tunnel centre-line, so it clears the tunnel:

And this is the rear plate that goes across the subframe wings to mount the engine mount to:

I haven't tried it yet, but I think I will have only to remove a little bit of the plate if any.

The rear mount on my subframe is different again
the cross menber is bent to follow the oringinal subframe then mount hangs off that

I had to fit a charcoal canister to mine as it is part of the emissions requirements in
SA all emission equipment had to stay, not that there is much on these engines

Damn SA and their regulations.

ALthough i'd think that it would be a fair bit harder to get approval in any state other than SA.

Matt/Brad,

Like 92 am pretty sure that I will have to fit the entire emission control system to my car.

Qld Transport is quite stringent about this. Anyway, its only until it gets registered.

What is a charcoal canister? how big? where does it go?

92 how did you bend the square pipe that you have used in numerous parts of your subframe to the correct shapes? Just using an oxy?

A charcoal canister is a container about the size of a milo tin that contains charcoal
the charcoal filters petrol vapours from your petrol tank and carby vents if fitted usualy found in engine bay and connected to tank via small pipes any car after about 1974 has one
minster to bent the RHS used in the sub frame I used a normal pipe bender, a bit tricky to get the bends nice without crimping this was done cold
