I have always been told that heat treating is only necessary if you have previously had to heat the steel to work it. I am pretty sure these guys did not heat my driveshafts to put the splines on. And given that the driveshafts would have previously been tempered this is not necessary. MiniVan the full process of professionally heat treating (annealing, hardening and tempering) is quite an involved process requiring a specialised furnace if you want to really do it properly, which is why alot people don't do it.

And if you don't have the right equip you generally end up with bent or weaker shafts.

Matt were did you get this idea from? It's a revalation. I just went down to Hefty Smurf and lied underneath it. Suzi shafts appar long enough to simply turn down. Sweet.

Bungholio, It's funny I never really thought about doing any other way I just assumed that this was what everyone else did. I must admit I did look at the driveshafts once out of the car to see if they were thick enough but after doing a quick visual just left them alone until I needed them tricked up. Yeah the suzi's should be okay too as most of the Jap shafts on modern cars are a little thicker than the standard Mini items and as long as they are thick enough to put the necessary splines on you should be okay.
