I had a clubby years ago standard The rocker cover flooded with oil.
all the rocker stuff would have been flogged I had no money young bloke.
the drain back is the pushrod holes. So increase drain or decrease oil flow

cam bearing upside down wasn't a factory feature was it?

Today i removed a valve spring and valve seal to see where the top of the guide sits in relation to where the oil level in the head would sit. The valve guide sits almost flush with the top cylinder head surface. Which would mean that oil would always be pooled up over the guide and seal rather than just splashing onto them. I feel like valve seal isn't intended to seal against oil in this manner. What are you thoughts?

Hi tech seals maybe .I feel your pain
Raise the guide then you limit lift I had pain getting longer pushrods .I can see why my head was made taller.
Taller valves Taller guides and shims maybe
That was done as a compromise to make it bolt on
I would rather have work to do and be told about it for a good result .
I think the Arden must be good as MED chose to sell it

I'd be interested in the answer as I've not come up with a solution yet. I've fitted tighter seals to custom guides but mine still blows a bit of smoke at start up/idle. I've not looked into it too much further as it's only been on road for a couple of weeks. Have put 5/8" breather on rocker cover to eliminate that as an issue. I've read one post (that I can't find again) about a fella in Scotland I think who remachined the oil drain but other than that, very little info.

Thinking i'm going to bolt the head back on just to mock it up and turn the motor over by hand to see how far the valve spring cap travels down. Im hoping that there will be enough clearance to push the valve guide up a little in an attempt to get it above the oil level. Will moving the valve stem up affect seating of the valve?

Also where can you buy better valve stem seals?

Karcraft stocks Viton seals. Plastic similar shape to Mini Metro ones.
Graham Russell stocks Viton seals with a brass body.

Bit of an update (i don't get much time to work on the mini these days)

After contacting Graham Russell and explaining my situation, he suggested buying Vitron valve stem seals (metal base) from MiniPlus (These have a great seal against the valve stems) and loctite sealing the base of the valve stem seals to the valve guides.

So what was the result?

So far, so good...

On start up it blew smoke which was to be expected as a fair bit of oil made its way into the exhaust system, but as it warmed up and burn off the excess oil, the smoke cleared.

I have since started it up and ran it a couple of times with no smoke. Im unsure if this will be a long term fix as the valve seals may not be up to the task of sealing from oil levels above them after they wear a little. I'll just have to wait and see.

Thank you everyone for your help and for Graham Russell who was more than happy to take time from his day and help me out.

Viton seals last a lot longer than the originals or the ones in a Payen gasket kit.
