Greetings gentlemen (& others!) I have 2 mini fuel lines from my parts dept. (back shed). One is 1/4" the other 5/16". I assume the correct one for a 67 Cooper S is the larger one? Advice appreciated. |

Peter Brock built his 179 cubic inch Holden 6, Triple SU powered Austin A30 and initially couldn't understand why he was getting fuel starvation...he tried insulating the fuel lines until someone pointed out that the puny fuel lines designed to feed a modest 4 cyl were inadequate for the hot Holden 6. So... Assuming you have a decent fuel pump and you are not too hung up on origami nationality...go the high flow lines with a fuel pressure regulating device

The boot lines for S twin tanks are all 5/16 inch to the fuel pump inlet. From the fuel pump outlet to the body line and up front to the carburettors are 1/4 inch. I found this out when fitting my S using new hoses/ braided lines and ends - thinking they were all 1/4 inch as per the engine bay size - couldn't fit 1/4 inch hose over the fuel tank outlet spouts or onto the joiner piece. There is an item here from timmy201 about this too. |

There is also an issue with the fuel pump plastic outlet fitting being 5/16" and the fuel pipe being 1/4". What size rubber hose do you need to connect between them? I bought new hoses etc from Midel many years ago but never tried to fit the supplied hose between the pump and fuel line. I can't remember if it was as special reducing hose or not. Edit: After re-reading BillB's post I'm now not sure which hose was the problem as both plastic inlet & outlet fittings at the pump are the same size. I did have to use a screw type hose clamp rather than the green spring clip type though. I will have to get underneath to refresh my memory. KRAFT disease again? RonR |

RonR Ron, you are right about the pump inlet/outlet. I found that I could not fit 1/4in hose onto the tank outlet spouts or the interconnecting pipe - had to buy 5/16 inch braided hose for that. The 5/16 inch hose from the interconnecting pipe inside the boot, through the hole in the boot floor and into the fuel pump inlet spout fitted well onto the pump. The pump outlet spout also accepted the 1/4 inch hose to join onto the car's main line (1/4inch) to the front. The plastic spouts in SU pumps seem to be a midway size between 1/4 and 5/16 inch. Just measured them. This seems to allow both sizes to be connected to the pump, so long as you have a very positive clamp, as Ron said. |

My Six Torana got Turboed 9 psi They said I could have run 15psi but it already was doing double horsepower .The guy from Bensons Turbo steered me to bigger fuel pipe and needle and seat with extra drillings in the 175 cd stromberg to get more flow of fuel. I got beat over quarter mile by works 351 with LSD NEXT Twin 175Cds special cam and it was scary still on 9psi Head was done at Sydney by Rams.No V8 holden was a match including the one that I put in later only to be disappointed and it didnt need bigger fuel supply. |

Thanks for all the replies. Now that my assumption was incorrect (yet again) and the 1/4" pipe is the one to use, I wonder what the 5/16" pipe is from. It seems to have all the same bends, length etc., and shaped to fit the floor pan, so what it is off, I have NFI. |

Advice appreciated. I think I have misunderstood your original question. When you say you have 2 mini "fuel lines", do you mean the fuel line that runs from front engine bay to rear fuel pump? If so, it is 1/4inch. If you meant the joiner pipe in the boot between the 2 tanks it is 5/16 inch. If you are referring to the pipe joining the 2 carburettors then it is 1/4 inch in the engine bay. |

I suspect the bigger one you have is from a race car or high performance type setup. |
