1970 Mini starter motor. I have just fitted a new Bendix to the starter motor and I have noticed there is about 2mm end play in the starter motor shaft and a small amount of side play. Will this cause any problems ?

Wasn't there a fibre washer in drive end that used to smash and fall out, causes end play. Too much side movement may cause poor meshing and or possible overlapping/jambing.

New bronze bushes and brushes are still available from Karcraft, Minikingdomonline and others.
