I was wondering if the OZ oil filter housing are different to the UK ones.

Is the nipple cast or does it screw into the housing

I am referring to the spin type

They all came from the UK. The nipple is steel. The alloy body is threaded and the nipple screwed in to it, I think they used a bit of locktite on them, but they will come out.

Some of the cheapo aftermarket ones we get now are just a cast alloy boss, threaded. No nipple..
These housings have a weird thread tapped for the nipple where the pipe goes on, it's 14mm or something.

Now you mention it, one or two I have maybe the same. Most I've had (early ones?) had a steel nipple. Sometimes they have come out with the filter.

Is the spin on filter common on OZ cars or did most of them get the cartridge type

Cartridge were most common here.
We didn't get spin-on really until the 998 UK motors replaced the Oz 1098 in ?1974-75 or so.
Then Oz Mini production ceased in Sept `78 and that was that (except for a few more years of Mokes).

If it's a common 998 Deluxe 3 synchro, the ratios are nothing special.
But the 998 Cooper (not many made) got S ratios (3.2:1 1st gear) and a 3.765 diff.

Good news looks like the box is a 22g1128 four syncro

My friend found the filter housing here's hoping its a early one with the steel center
